Return by Ralph Helmick sits at the entrance to Hopewell, Virginia, 20 miles south of Richmond. The 61-foot-tall sculpture is evocative of scaffolding and was inspired by the industrial mills of Hopewell. The piece is made of more than a linear mile of 2” stainless steel pipe. The angles of the horizontal pieces are all angled as if they radiate from a single point and the angles of these pieces increase as the piece go up. This resulted in over 1,000 parts with about half of those unique parts. JunoWorks designed all of the part files which were used to cut the 2” pipe on a six-axis tube laser. The piece was welded and assembled in our shop and then disassembled and shipped to Hopewell where we installed it.

Sanford Biggers’ Odyssey is among the largest pieces we have completed. The two sculptures each measure 8’x8’x75’ and are suspended from the ceiling from a mass timber building of the Portland International Airport (PDX). We worked closely with Studio Sandford Biggers team to optimize the design for the unique requirement of attaching to a plywood ceiling and being in a seismic zone. Additionally, the size limitations of the space required extensive planning and collaboration with the SSB team, PDX team and the general contractor to lift and attach the sculpture in place.

Sanford’s geometric sculptures, printed with quilt patterns, are part of his “Codex” series, which was originally inspired by people who once hid designs in quilts to help formerly enslaved people find the route to freedom.

“Gentle Breeze” is the centerpiece of the Cherie Buckner-Webb Park in Boise, Idaho by artist, activist, and TED Fellow, Matthew Mazzotta. “Gentle Breeze” is an expansive pink tree measuring 23’ tall with a 30’ diameter with three functional bench swings attached to the tree. The 16 gauge aluminum leaves of the tree are built from 748 individual pieces which move silently with the gentle breeze rolling through downtown Boise. The 30 vertical pieces are continuously changing curves created from rolled and free form bent mild steel. The trunk is covered in fiberglass with a steel core. Juno Works managed all of the design development of the tree as well as fabrication, paint, and installation. The piece was shipped in 10 separate pieces and reassembled, bolted and welded onsite.

By Donald Lipski, thousands of painted stainless steel flaps flutter in the near constant winds of El Paso Texas. The sculpture is 60' tall and was transported to University of Texas in El Paso in sections. Assembled at a nearby parking lot and lifted by a 450 ton crane and set in it's final location approximately 200' from the assembly site. What could have been a challenging installation went seamlessly.

Denargo Market is a 17acre project on the South Platte River, just north of downtown Denver. More than four acres of public space are at the center of this mixed-use project. The developers, Golub & Co and Formativ and landscape architects Saski conceived of the idea of a rhino climbing structure to anchor the public space. JunoWorks worked closely with Craft Engineering and Eldorado Climbing on the design development.

The complex geometry and scale resulted in numerous design and fabrication challenges. The HSS platform moment frame is the primary structural support system. Upon which sits an HSS rib system which supports the skin of the rhino. Which consists of Corten structural-steel facet frame clad with perforated Corten steel plates.

The perforated skin panels and the ability to see the interior of the rhino was a contributing factor of using a rib system over a waffle system.  Additionally, we believe it enhances the impact of lighting at night.

The extensive design development process resulted in a relatively short fabrication and installation. Fabrication was completed in less than two months and installation of the metal components was completed in less than seven days.

9720 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hill, CA. Juno Works managed the design development and fabrication with Montalba Architects for the revitalization project of master architect Edward Durell Stone’s New Formalist landmark building at 9720 Wilshire Blvd in Beverly Hills. Thoughtful renovations were made to the iconic 1962 building working alongside historical consultants to refresh the exterior plaza, interior lobbies, and common areas. A previously unused basement was activated with a contemporary light well in what had once been a central fountain in the courtyard above. Montalba designed a sunken garden made of a bronze case to surround the light well and bring an abundance of natural light into the basement.

JunoWorks fabricated the piece and worked closely with Montalba on design development and prototyping.Muntz Metal tubes were cut lengthwise at a diagonal and then rolled to a 16’ radius. Texture was added to the 200 “prongs” with a hammer and a needle descaler and then the prongs were blackened and attached to sleeve welded to the baseplates. Two 5”x1/2”x 24’ diameter compression rings provide additional structure. A 35’ diameter planter ring measuring 13” tall, frames the install.

The project won several prestigious award including  Architecture MasterPrize (AMP), Architizer A+ and ARCHITECT Magazine merit Award

Samuel Stitt’s Eternal Heart sculpture is one of the more challenging pieces we’ve completed.  JunoWorks performed design development, fabrication and installation of this piece for the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma at the Choctaw Capital Grounds in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma. The stainless-steel Sculpture features a Celtic Trinity Knot intertwined with a heart. It is made from stainless plate and with double curvature throughout which is difficult to achieve with plate. The faces were laser cut and the sides were hand formed to box out the shape.

History & Artist’s Statement

In 1847, the Choctaw Nation, having recently endured the arduous journey known as the “Trail of tears,” selflessly came together to raise over $170 (equivalent to $5,000 today) to support the Irish during the Great Famine. The Choctaws’ heartfelt donation was sent to Midleton in County Cork, providing much-needed relief to the Irish.. In 1995, then Irish President Mary Robinson visited the Choctaw Nation to express gratitude and rekindle the friendship between the two nations. During the visit, President Robinson was appointed “Honorary Chief of the Choctaw Nation.” This historic visit marked the beginning of a renewed commitment to honor the bond forged by the Choctaws’ selfless act. In 2017, the “Kindred Spirits” sculpture, designed by Irish artist Alex Pentek, was erected in Midleton, serving as a permanent reminder of the enduring connection between the Choctaw Nation and Ireland.

The “Eternal Heart” sculpture was designed to honor the eternal bond forged between the Choctaw Nation and the people of Ireland.

 “There is no beginning or end to the overall piece – thus, it is eternal,” Stitt said.

The sculpture has a very specific orientation, with the heart – representing the Choctaw Nation – facing toward Ireland. It is an 8-foot-tall sculpture combining a Celtic trinity shape intertwined with a heart and is specifically placed facing toward Ireland. The concrete base is edged with diamond shapes, a Choctaw symbol of reverence to the diamondback snake.

The sculpture sits atop a mound, honoring the heritage of mound-building of the Choctaw ancestors as well as the ancient “hill forts” and mounds found in Ireland. The winding footpath represents the Trail of Tears, with the exact orientation mirroring the arduous route from the Mississippi homelands to Indian Country. Also included with the sculpture is a design for an informational sign.

JunoWorks developed the initial concept, fabricated and installed this 35’ tall by 14’ wide star for a Raising Cane’s Restaurant in Dallas, Texas. The restaurant is a collaboration between Raising Canes, Post Malone and the Dallas Cowboys. The star has over 14,000 LEDs that illuminate polycarbonate panels. The star also has custom fabricated 14’ long perforated stainless steel to protect the polycarbonate. We completed the project in under six weeks from the initial inquiry about the project.

Wayfinding by Linda Fleming is the focus of the new Victoria Ward Park in Honolulu, Hawaii and is visible from the Ala Moana Blvd, of the main thorofares on the island. Fleming wanted the sculpture to be as large as possible, which presented a number of challenges given that the piece was shipped on a cargo ship. The eight painted 3/8” thick laser cut stainless steel panels had to fit in a shipping container, which was an engineering project itself. Six of the plates were bent to form three separate trapezoidal columns. The two large floating plates measuring 19’x8’ connect the three columns together. More than 70 different 3/8” thick brackets measuring up 2’x1.5’ hold the columns and the floating columns together. JunoWorks managed design development, fabrication, installation and the challenges of shipping by ocean for a massive sculpture.

Artist Statement

The traditional art of navigating the oceans uses the sun in the day and the stars as guide points at night. This celestial guidance is only available on clear nights. On cloudy nights navigators learned to read the seemingly everchanging ocean by observing the distinctive characteristics of the currents as well as the position of clouds. These subtle shifts in appearance can identify a particular current as well as the presence of land and can be felt in the subtle rocking of the vessel as well as visually observed. Terrestrial maps draw landmarks and indicate their proximity and direction but on the ocean the navigators carry a picture of the entire area in their minds. This remarkable skill is called wayfinding and allowed the inhabitation of Pacific Islands.

The sculpture Wayfinding takes its lines from the shape of glimmering water currents and swirling sky and is a multifaceted translucent drawing in space. The sky, the water, and the landscape can be viewed through the openwork pattern that has scale and presence without being a monolith. Wayfinding creates a shallow arc with an enclosing interior and an exterior that curves away from the viewer. This curve allows the cutout panels to overlap each other visually and produces the effect of shimmering water or moving clouds when viewed from various angles. It acts as a landmark in Victoria Ward Park that is visible from multiple places and helps the viewer locate themselves and find their way.

Adam Frank’s Wayfinder is a delightful forced perspective of railroad tracks. The rails and ties are all custom fabricated and decrease in size as the sculpture goes up in height. The faces of the rail are clad in stainless steel with the top being mirror polished to create the illusion of the it disappearing into the sky. The sculpture is over 30’ tall. The rails and ties at the bottom are standard size that would be used on a railroad and decrease in size with the tie at the top measuring 3/8” x 3” W. Design development, fabrication and installation were undertaken by JunoWorks. The sculpture is on the Del Rio Trail in Sacramento, California.

Wings to Dream by Dixie Friend Gay at the library in Erie, Colorado was another technically challenging piece to fabricate. The three columns have 24 separate elements spread-out amongst them. Each column has a marque element; ram horns, moose antlers and elk horns. The moose antlers were hand formed out of ¾” stainless steel rod which curvature in multiple directions. The antlers are infilled with a specialty stainless steel sheet to provide texture and reflect light in different ways. The outside edges of the ram’s horn were hand formed out of stainless-steel rod and then infilled with over 2,000 smaller rods to provide structure. The elk horns were hand formed out of ¾” stainless rod. The acorn and the pine cone were also challenging element to fabricate. We worked very closely with Dixie during design development in determining the various elements. JunoWorks also handled fabrication, lighting design and installation.

Artist Statement

This trio of sculptures creates a portal to realms unbounded by the constraints of our physical world. The artistic journey of "Wings to Dreams" was guided by the belief that art has the power to transcend mere aesthetic appreciation, acting as a catalyst for reflection, inspiration, and transformation. By incorporating imagery of horns and antlers, revered around the world for their associations with fertility and power, the sculptures weave a narrative that connects us to the ancient roots of humanity's quest for meaning and dominion. This symbolic lineage invites viewers to ponder our place within the continuum of history and nature, challenging us to envision our dreams and aspirations as part of a larger, communal tapestry of existence.

MetaFork in the Road is a whimsical 30-foot tall and 4,500 lbs steel installation representing the classic metaphor for a deciding moment in life when a choice between presented options is required. The piece is created by Hunter Leggitt based in Denver, Colorado for Burning Man 2022.

The original vision of bringing a fork in the road to Burning Man came from Elon Musk, who approached Hunter about 4-weeks before the Burn to collaborate on then ultimately design and produce the piece.

Accepting the challenge, Hunter and Junoworks spent the following 48 hours designing the look, scale, technical details, and production budget of the piece. Within days, the piece was engineered and fully under construction. Built entirely from 3/8” & 1/2” hot-dipped galvanized plate steel, our design, engineering, fabrication, and installation teams pulled off quite a feat in such short notice.

The artwork is now on permanent installation at Tesla Bay Area HQ Autopilot / A.I. Division in Palo Alto.

By Wes Sam-Bruce with. Adventure Forest is a bold 500 ft. long aerial adventure course, laced with a hidden journey. This exciting project was designed and built through a collaboration between The Children’s Museum of Denver’s exhibits team, Bonsai Design, Junoworks, and artist Wes Sam-Bruce.

By Catherine Widgery. Built using sustainable Accoya wood, dichroic glass, stainless steel, and concrete. It lives as the focal point for the Central Park neighborhood in Denver, CO.

Woven Light is an outdoor room; you are inside and outside at the same time and the shadows, light and projected color make you more conscious of the sun and the breeze than if you were standing in the open.

When seen from the outside, the dichroic glass between the slats reflects the sky and surrounding trees. Inside is like being in a kaleidoscope of moving colored lights on the darkened interior as the sun shifts angle. We can look through the openings or through the glass that changes the color of the landscape like a lens. Endlessly changing patterns of crisscrossing shadows and reflected light within and on the ground dematerialize the structure and make a rich shadow on the ground extending the impact of the art beyond its physical boundaries.

In 1968, Roger Kotoske brought artists Robert Morris, Angelo di Benedetto, Richard Van Buren, Peter Forakis, Tony Magar, Dean Fleming, Robert Mangold and Wilbert Verhelst to Denver to create and install outdoor sculptures in Burns Park as part of the Denver National Sculpture Symposium.

Untitled (red diamonds) by Roger Kotoske was originally made in 1968 out of wood and repaired with fiberglass over the years.

The City of Denver hired JunoWorks to rebuild the sculpture in 2022 out of stainless steel. The three octahedrons are each over 18’ tall and 13’ wide. The diamonds were fabricated out of .25” stainless steel with an internal support. The tips of the diamond where they meet are welded together joining all three diamonds together, which made for a very challenging install. JunoWorks handled all aspects of the project including removal of the old sculpture, design development, fabrication and installation.

Area C Projects (Erik Carlson and Erika Carpenter)

END of LINE looks at the landscape surrounding RidgeGate State- the last stop of the RTD Southeast Rail Extension- as a place of endings, beginnings and transformations. The very presence of this station testifies to the changes taking place around Lone Tree as new industries transform the open hills and prairies of its agrarian past into a nexus of modem business and life. To engage this shift, END of LINE’s icons are arranged to echo the gridded plan of the main roads that connect the neighborhood of this developing area. Scanning across or up or down, the icons shift and recombine, melding elements from two local coding systems: the livestock of Lone Tree’s heritage, and “end of line” symbols from the computer language of its future. “Uplift” by Vicki Scuri Site Works creates a gateway view to the City Of Sacramento and its River District. The historically commercial area is transitioning into a vibrant, mixed-use, transit-oriented community. The two 40’ tall plasma cut Corten steel winged forms, spanning 11 feet each echo the themes of Metamorphosis: Growth, Transformation and Rebirth. We worked closely with the structural engineers and the artist on the fabrication of the 10 individual ½” plate meeting both the engineering and aesthetic requirements. A sandblast and patina was applied to the entire structure in house. No detail was left unnoticed as we fabricated a Corten Steel clad concrete base.

Michael Clapper’ Community, placed on the plaza of a new housing development in Fremont, California, uses imagery from an abstracted honeycomb to represent the concept of community. The honeycomb canopy, made from perforated stainless steel, also displays elements of Dichroic glass that project a colorful pattern onto the plaza below.

Linda Fleming’s Spindrift creates a place of reflection, shadow & light. The pieces were Fabricated by Juno Works using painted stainless steel. Standing at 14’ x 14’ x 14’, this dynamic work of art lives in Burlingame, California. “My works hint at the co-existence of the mundane and the cosmological to create a place where two realities simultaneously exist including the possibility that the past is also present.” - Linda Fleming

Gather by Michael Beitz is located at the Student Center at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO. The piece is fabricated using aluminum with the sides of the “gather” CNC cut and then boxed out with rolled aluminum sheets. We used aluminum tube for the pieces that run up the wall and for the flat part of the table.

By Cecil Balmond. One of the largest pieces we’ve created to date. This piece started with over 100K pounds of 1.5” thick stainless steel which we had waterjet to form the script on the cylinder as well as the two 9’ rings which support the script. The 13’ saddle in turn supports the ring and was hand formed by our team. We worked very closely with Balmond Studios throughout the entire fabrication process on the project. The Farhang Foundation commissioned this sculpture in Los Angeles to honor the ideals of Cyrus the Great– a Persian ruler who championed principles of religious diversity and personal freedom 2,500 years ago.

Shin Gray Studio created created this sculpture for the new Netflix production studio on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles. Standing at 30’ x 6’ x 22’ That Child of Fleeting Time commemorates the site’s historical landmark location as Warner Brother’s original Los Angeles location where the first talkie film was produced. The stainless steel sculpture, created in the shape of four curved film strips, features a media screen on the front skin of the sculptures. This media skin of the sculpture features the artist’s interpretation of the film, “The Jazz Singer”, the first talkie created at the site, focusing on the tension between two generations; the analog past and the digital present and future.

We worked with Landscape Architects DTJ Design on the design development, fabrication and installation of this tree inspire shade structure. The trunk is 3” Corten tube which has been rolled and held in place by Corten rods around the truck. The canopy has Corten rods branches and stainless steel perforated cut leaves to provide shade. The 24’ x 10’ piece was fully fabricated in our shop and cut into two pieces for shipping. Onsite it was welded back together.

The PhD Molecule, Larry Kirkland, 2017

Built from a black granite base and a stainless steel caffeine molecule, artist Larry Kirkland’s “Ph.D. Molecule”, proudly stands 27’ tall on the Rutgers University Busch campus. The granite base reflects formulas on a chalkboard that are considered to be the fundamental building blocks of chemistry, an apropos statement for the students entering the courtyard of the Wright-Rieman Chemistry Building.

One of the most fun projects we've undertaken! Donald Lipski's "Jackson" is a 1960 city transit bus, which was located in Maryland, shipped to a trucking facility in Denver, and then driven to our studio. Our team went at it with torches and wrenches removing all mechanical components. We dramatically altered the body and added 15,000 lbs. of structural steel. Located at a transit facility in Reno Nevada, the bus stands 25' tall on a 30-degree incline, which all adds to the exaggerated perspective. All exterior and interior lights have been replaced with long life LED's which pop on at night.

An informal entry to the new Human and Civil Rights Museum in Atlanta Georgia. Water flows over large etched glass panels with quotations from Margaret Mead and Nelson Mandala. This monumental sculpture measures 36’ x 24’ x 24’ . The glass is framed by two stainless steel monuments, water is treated and recirculated by an elaborate underground pump room. JunoWorks was responsible for the entire piece including glass, water system and of course the stainless steel. John Grant, our chief collaborator, is responsible for pulling together several complicated systems with a very tight deadline to make this sculpture the huge success that it is. His efforts can't be overstated. This was our first project of three to date with Larry Kirkland.

Pipelines is a temporary, outdoor art installation by Canadian artists Julia Jamrozik and Coryn Kempster, located at the Plaza of the Americas in Denver, Colorado. Spanning approximately 115 feet long by 22 feet wide, this playful, interactive artwork repurposes over 100 PVC water and wastewater pipes commonly used for water infrastructure across the world. Junoworks is proud to partner on design, development, engineering, fabrication, and installation of the playful & sustainable structure. Linda Fleming’s Lightning was commissioned by the Arts Council of Big Sky, Montana. It is prominently installed in front of the newly built BASE Community Center located in the Town Center. This project was a full in house service; we worked closely with Linda on the design development, fabrication, painting, and installation of the project. Evocative of its rugged surroundings, Fleming’s stainless steel sculpture combines geometric forms with cut-out curvilinear patterning that define interior spaces and exterior topographies. Through the layering of dynamic colors, Fleming creates optical effects that change as Lightning is viewed from different vantage points. Light and shadow play through the form, allowing the sculpture to take on new dimensions at different times of the day.

Adriane Colburn’s "Herbarium" is inspired by the records of Hans Herman Behr, a young physician and naturalist who settled in San Francisco in 1850 and described a vibrant and verdant ecosystem along the edges of the Bay. Composed of fauna endemic to Mission Bay, many of which species may still be found in the persistently wild corners of the city, the sculpture represents the natural history that persists as the urban plan grows and evolves. The bright colors both contrast and complement the architecture of the hotel, while referencing the spectrum of the city — the orange of California poppies and the Golden Gate Bridge, the blues of fog and the Bay, and the yellow of wild yarrow and mustard.

The 1/2” painted plate steel is rolled in several locations adding depth to the piece. JunoWorks worked on design development, fabrication and installation.

Bernar Venet

2004. Built from corten steel and located at the Colorado Convention Center. Junoworks was responsible for the installation of this iconic piece and treasure of the Denver public art program.

CIRCUIT by Erik Carlson / Area C Projects is a dynamic, interactive public artwork celebrating the spirit of progress and wellness that lies at the heart of the new Carla Madison Recreation Center in Denver, CO, and at the heart of the city of Denver at large. Through a monumental light display, the artwork will project, on the facility’s exterior facade, the levels of individual effort going on within, re-framing these efforts on a communal scale. In breaking down the separation between interior and exterior, between the individual and the group, CIRCUIT seeks to engage the ways that individual actions can build, grow and coalesce into a greater whole, and a greater good for all.

Ralph Helmick's Drawing Room located in Mesa, Arizona has been created using stainless and formed laser-cut carbon steel. Drawing Room towers at 50’ tall and is situated at the entrance to Mesa City Hall and the Mesa Art Center. The profiles of the figures are designed from graphic cutout silhouettes of an inclusive group of Mesa citizens. The sculpture has been designed as a walkway for viewers to enjoy from a distance, as well as from underneath to serve as a portal between the community and the light rail. The sculpture was built at the JunoWorks studio and transported as a single piece thereby reducing on site installation time. A great piece and very well received by the community.

At the entry of a new science building for Oklahoma State University, Tulsa Oklahoma. Graphic content--EKG graph, DNA strand, binary code and many more. Formed and painted laser-cut steel, stainless steel. Built entirely at the JunoWorks studio and cut into 17 pieces to fit shipping requirements. Ralph Helmick, artist.

Located in downtown Boston at St. Paul's Cathedral on Boston Common. The sculpture began as 4' x 10' flat aluminum sheets and was formed by hand (all compound shapes) by the skilled crew at JunoWorks. Internal LED lighting transforms the sculpture at sunset. A beautiful and unexpected piece by Donald Lipski.

Located at the University of Texas El Paso, the 25' tall, Corten Steel, water-jet cut skin features internal lighting and a surprise message. While the form of the pick axe represents a nod to the University’s past, the binary code (perforated in the skin) reflects the use of modern technology. The binary code message is loosely based on an inspirational quote from UTEP President Emerita Diana Natalicio “Believe in yourself and in your dreams. Believe in UTEP and its aspirations. Share the dream!”

OMNIS is our first project with artist Jim Sanborn. The 12’ x 5’ wide bronze cylinder with a blue patina features words in 42 languages expressing the social values of soccer and 18 milestones in the history of soccer, from 600 B.C. in Xi'an, China, through 2019 in St. Paul. A light inside illuminates the sculpture at night projecting the dramatic reminders onto the ground creating an even larger format for Sanborn’s work. Juno Works fabricated and installed the project at Allianz Stadium in St. Paul, MN

Signal sits on Treasure Island between San Francisco and Oakland made of steel from the former East Span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. We cut three 12-ton girders into pieces and fabricated a steel ring 25 feet across sitting on low concrete piers. Artist Tom Loughlin says, “I hope visitors will find themselves thinking about our place in the natural landscape and the tools we build to help us traverse it.” Photos by Tom Loughlin and Robert Ikenberry.

Hundreds of individual silhouettes come together to form E Pluribus. Suspended over a dramatic stairway in the atium of the new federal courthouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Completely assembled at the JunoWork's studio and then cut into pieces to fit through standard office doors. Located in Celebration Plaza in White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis, The Tent, stands 43" tall and 14" wide. The Tent is a wind activated sculpture and was built from tubular stainless steel. It has nearly 500 panels of polished stainless steel and is painted on the outside with 23 colors of Spraylet environmentally friendly paint. By Donald Lipski

By Donald Lipski. Installed in Scottsdale, Arizona in 2007, "The Doors" are constructed of Ipe (Brazilian hardwood), mirror polished stainless steel, L.E.D. lights, and thousands of hand forged stainless steel rivets and strapping. Dimensions: 29' x 12' x 12'.

Bold and powerful from the exterior, the sculpture retains a world of wonder inside. The interior is designed like a massive kaleidoscope and an oculus that creates the optical illusion of a geodesic dome above. Guests are greeted with yet another surprise inside of the sculpture, an auditory piece by sound artist, Jim Green.

Made of 1.26 pioneers of tensile support matrix of Spectra® fiber, and installed between the Denver Art Museum Ponti Building and Civic Center Park, this dynamic sculpture floats above the busy 14th street below. Commissioned to commemorate Denver’s inaugural Biennial of the Americas, the dramatic lighting changes the piece from day to night. JunoWorks provided project management and installation. “Where the River Flows”, 2018

Weber Valley Youth Center, Ogden, Utah

In 2018, “Where the River Flows was named one of the 50 outstanding public art projects by The Public Art Network Year in Review through Americans for the Arts. Visitors are greeted at the entrance to the Weber Valley Youth Center by a 25’ flowing metal ribbon which transforms into terrazzo through the lobby. Inspired by the surrounding Webb River, Griggs’ art is a metaphor representing how the center guides individuals “join in the river of people who are contributing members of society…it also offers a metaphor of hope.” The artist quotes the author Laila Gifty Akita: “Hope is a flowing stream.” Junoworks is proud to work with David on fabrication and installation for the custom perforated and painted stainless steel river.

By Michael Clapper. Artist Michael Clapper created the Birth of the NFL to commemorate the founding of the National Football League. In 1920 the League was formed inside a Hupmobile dealership in Canton, Ohio that was owned by Canton Bulldogs owner Ralph Hayes. This project represents that event by using a spheroid form as a metaphor for a seed pod, and the NFL letter composition as the nucleus within. The stainless steel spheroid and glass letter composition are perched atop an 11’ tall pedestal of pre-rusted steel I-beams. Located outside the Bow Building in Canton, Ohio, this work measures 23’ x 11’ x 8’.

The base of the sculpture, an 11' tall pedestal of pre-rusted steel I-beams, is meant to honor the steel industry of Canton. This work of public art also displays the names of the 10 original teams of the league.

Jurassic Leaves is a landmark along the I-25 corridor in Denver, It provides protection for Light Rail travelers at the Louisiana Pearl station and is made of carbon steel, stainless steel and painted copper. In 2006, the project won the Denver Mayor’s Design Award.

Riverdale Regional Park, Adams County, Colorado.

Located in the lobby of the Science Building at Denver’s Auraria Campus, The Butterfly spans 14’ x 16 x 12’. The inspired work contains 10,000 resin-filled glass tubes that glow from the light above. Construction elements also include steel and the entire assembly is suspended by a glass curtain wall. The sculpture take flights by gently rotating by utilizing the air flow of the building’s HVAC system. Created by artist, Donald Lipski.

When the city of San Antonio extended it’s River Walk in 2009, artist Donald Lipski was commissioned to design a new public art work for the Museum Reach portion of the landmark path. The school of fiberglass fish number 25 and each one measures 7’ long. The fish represent the native, long-eared sunfish. 1,000 LED lights help the school of fish to glow beautifully at night, while the reflective surfaces of the paint capture light bouncing off the river below.

By artists Beau Kenyon and Natalia Zubko. River Constellation is a responsive sculpture evoking a thicket of light and sound, honoring the donors who support Des Moines’ Water Works Park. Forty-five (45) ten-foot tall poles holding 12-inch diameter orbs that softly pulse with light are arranged to suggest the path of the Raccoon River through Water Works Park’s 1,500 acre natural environment. Individual rings mounted to the poles are engraved with the names of park sponsors. Motion sensors trigger an infinitely variable musical composition of birdsong and a mixed ensemble. Sound exciters mounted within the globes play the music which is generated as a unique expression each time it begins, serenading those who explore within the sculpture’s terrain.

Junoworks is proud to have worked with multiple collaborators consisting of the artist, composer, musicians, sound engineers, and donors of the park.

Inspired by Brancusi’s “Bird in Space'', artist Donald Lipski created Ziz at the Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear Arizona out of fiberglass, concrete, and steel. The sculpture stands at 60’ 6” tall, which is the distance from the pitcher’s mound to home plate. The form is inspired by Brancusi’s iconic “Bird in Space”. The sculpture resides in a pool between a mixed-use development and the ballpark entrance.

Annette Coleman’s 20 foot tall Mid-Century Mod-Cacti was fabricated from a single piece of stainless steel plate with the help of a 400 ton press break. “This standalone sculpture of mid-modern-inspired cacti draws upon the history of the area and offers travelers a wayfinding gift.” A color palette of blues and magenta greet RTD customers arriving at the north end of the station; from the south, the futuristic cacti feature bright green shades with pink accents. The design concept comes from a childhood memory Coleman shares of seeing cacti in her great aunt’s garden that had bright colors with extraordinary blossoms and spines.

Native Plants is a collection of 3 different sculpture series along the medians on Tower Road between E. 81st Avenue and E. 104th Avenue in Commerce City, CO. These installations includes colorful stylized leaves and grass sculptural installations based on native plants in the region from artist Mark Horst. The Milkweed Leaf, Grama Grass, and Cottonwood Leaf are all represented in this series. Each leaf and grass installation features six pieces for a total of 18 pieces. Junoworks is proud to fabricate, paint, install and create design & development for these environmental sculptures.

By Douglas Kornfeld. Built from powder coated steel, the iconic figures stand 16' x 29' x 18' in City Park, Denver, CO. Commissioned by the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs. In 2005 this sculpture won a national award from Americans for the Arts, which recognized the artwork as “one of the most exciting, compelling, and innovative public artworks in the United States.” The upright head depicts the profile of an African-American woman looking out to the adjacent North Denver neighborhood. The second head, with the profile of a generic male, appears to be sinking into the ground. The sculpture is sited adjacent to the City Park golf course. The artwork is intended to symbolize the changes in thinking that finally allowed African Americans to play this golf course located in their neighborhood.

By Larry Kirkland at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. The 30,000 square foot 22’ tall lobby features six wind vanes that rotate overhead. Stacks of inlaid Corian alphabet blocks spell out the names of geographically dispersed Iowa towns.

Southern Oregon University Student Recreation Center in Ashland, OR. Inspired by SOU’s embrace of outdoor-based learning and lifestyles, CUMULUS is an artwork created especially for the Student Recreation Center. The piece’s duo of stacked, multi-level light interventions claim positions both inside and outside the building. The inside node’s light animations change in real time according to the changing atmospheric conditions outside, while the outside node’s shifting color fields are driven by the level of human activity currently going on inside the facility’s basketball court, exercise studios, climbing ares, etc. Breathing between the building’s interior and exterior walls, CUMULUS breaks down traditional separations between indoor and outdoor space in celebration of a mindset that conceives the whole outdoors as a classroom.

The form of CUMULUS also takes shape around the weather. Ashland’s cloud-forms interrelate with local peaks and valleys so that sometimes they appear to grow out of the landscape, and sometimes the landscape appears to grow out of them. Likewise, CUMULUS grows either out of, or into, the angular lines of the building that holds it, with a form suggested by the irregular, climbing shapes of cumulus and lenticular clouds -- reimagined here in an abstracted, linear style that harmonizes with the building’s rectilinear planes. Meanwhile, the artwork’s ever-changing plays of color and light evoke the soft impermanence and blended iridescence of actual clouds, and reflect the shifting and blending human energies that bring this unique campus to life.

CUMULUS is an original artwork owned and commissioned by the Oregon Arts Commission and Southern Oregon University.

By Ty Gillespie. This public art project commissioned by Park Creek Metropolitan District with funding from the Denver Urban Renewal Authority is situated in the Prickly Plume Park in Central Park’s Bluff Lake neighborhood. Entitled “Open House” the sculpture features the framework of two houses and is fabricated Cor-Ten® steel that complements the coloring of the buildings around the park. . Each house has a front porch and has seating inside. One house is quiet; it incorporates a bench from the park design. The other house has a game table and seats; a more active space. The artist, Ty Gillespie, says, “Families, children and housing are the essence of Central Park and my sculpture is about housing and for families.” It’s meant to be enjoyed by neighbors of all ages.

Installed in the Sobrato Pavillion at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, California in 2017. A combination of glass beads and gold leafed pewter forms suspend from a 1” steel plate floral shaped panel above with nylon coated suspension cable.

Towards a Fair and Just Verdict is a suspended sculpture that was created for the lobby of a new courthouse in the City of Frisco, Texas in 2021.

This concept is about weighing evidence. Clapper used imagery that speaks to the concept of weighing the evidence by the jury. It was his intent to create a suspended work of art that honors the profession, legal personnel and the citizenry of Frisco, Texas.

To illustrate this concept, Clapper created a sculpture that consists of a large, modernist version of a scale. The “beam” is supported by a large, slightly curved element that is visually divided into 6 segments. The segments exhibit 3 different shades of copper. This element is meant to represent the Jury of one’s peers.

Attached to each end of the beam are long pendants that are filled with clusters of “pages” that are made from polished stainless steel that are perforated with graphics and text.

Levine Children's Hospital, Charlotte, NC. 50' x 60' x 8'. Stainless steel and glass. For the 6 story, curtain-walled lobby of this new, state of the art hospital, Lipski created a tubular stainless steel structure to hold a stainless steel net. Over 10,000 glass chandelier crystals of dozens of shapes and sizes are suspended from the net. Completed in 2007

Area C Projects (Erik Carlson and Erika Carpenter)

Located at the Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building at the University of Colorado Boulder.

AREA C projects activated a looming void in the central stair of a new biotechnology building with three 8’ diameter discs, across which projected communities of polymorphic objects swim, swarm and glide — their movements reflecting of the collective life of the building itself.

To populate the projection discs, AREA C created hundreds of animated artificial life units using research materials from the facility’s own labs. The artwork combines behavioral software and real-time massing of traffic on the stairs to influence the units’ behavior along the lines of three distinct cellular motility models: swim (goal-oriented movement, solo or in teams), swarm (massive collective movement) or glide (exploratory solo movement).

Engaging this biotech facility’s purpose as an innovation incubator, and envisioning the roles that action/reaction/interaction play along the collaborative arc of the research process, the artwork imagines its host building on its own terms: as a growth medium.

"Cloudscape" consists of multiple large-scale sculptural objects. Each cloud sculpture is perched on top of a steel tower reminiscent of the oil well towers and utility towers that are scattered across the landscape of rural Colorado. Originally designed for a location along Peña Boulevard near Denver International Airport, the artist, Christopher Lavery, considered that the viewers would initially see the work as they drove by, impacted as they first see the artwork from a distance, allowing time for curiosity and imagination. At night, the experience shifts as the works are illuminated from within, with colors representative of the Colorado sunrise and sunset.

Junoworks completely renovated and installed “Cloudscape” at it's new and permanent location at the Children's Museum in Denver.

Donald Lipski

For the new Pinnacle Bank Arena in the Haymarket section of Lincoln, NE, artist Donald Lipski created a giant box of chocolates, paying homage to Lincoln's history as a center of chocolate manufacturing. Many of the chocolates have shapes and images that relate to symbols of Lincoln, past, and present. Colorado-based artists Patrick Marold and John McEnroe were brought on to help craft the chocolates and cast them. This work measures 21’ x 13’ x 14” and is constructed of plastics, steel, and LED lighting. 2013

Question Mark was built and installed at the Madison Public Library in Madison, WI as a part of the 25,000 sq. ft. extension and remodel. The sculpture stands at two stories tall and fabricated using aluminum and 327 LED lights.

The I LOVE YOU installation located at the Young At Art Museum and Broward Country Library in Florida is an outdoor space that has been transformed into an open-air room for children and their families to read, create art, picnic, and enjoy the library's popular story-telling program. Colorful benches shaped like flowers surround the giant letters standing 10’ tall.

Central ARTSTATION in Shreveport, LA. Art the Dalmatian stand at 19.5’ tall and guards the renovated and repurposed fire station outside of the original Engine Room doors of Central ARTSTATION. Art the Dalmatian is solid white fiberglass and is covered in iconic “dots” that each light up when the “dot donor’s” name is selected from a keyboard. Art the Dalmatian also performs a programmable light show each evening.

Warwick, Rhode Island. A transformation of the Interlink Parking Garage. The dimensions of the colorful, lightweight aluminum tubes span sixty feet tall by two hundred and sixty feet long new garage elevation. This work combines urban painting, sculpture, painting, and architecture.

Compassion, Strength, & Honor is a stainless and mirrored steel sculpture located outside of the Denver County Jail. It includes two representations of the sheriff badge. The upright badge has a mirror-like star, inviting the onlooker to become a part of the work. It also includes 21 rivets symbolizing the 21-gun salute performed at the annual Fallen Officer Memorial honoring fallen deputies. The leaning badge represents our fallen officers. This sculpture combines the past and the future of the Denver Sheriff Department in one piece of art.

"Village Tree" (painted steel and aluminum; 20' x 16' x 16'; 2013) by Kyungmi Shin was inspired by the community of Lennox, which is largely composed of residents from various parts of Latin America and Africa.

Shin created a shade structure that functions like a tree in the center of a village. The colorful discs with cutout shapes of tropical plant leaves represent the landscapes of Latin American and Africa. And the sculptural shading provides a colorful visual focal point for the courtyard, adding a shaded hangout area and transforming the formerly banal courtyard into a welcoming and visually stimulating environment."

Also included are depictions of an elm tree, inspired by the name “Lennox,” which in Scottish means “with many elm trees.” The cutouts cast shadows on the ground throughout the day, becoming slowly moving images of banana, palm and coconut tree leaves.

Taipei, Taiwan

Rooftop garden made of sandblasted stainless steel planters and a large water feature. Located at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver and designed by Karla Dakin.

This sculpture, by Michael Clapper, which sits along the south shore of Sloan’s Lake in Denver, address’s the link between the natural geography of the site and the evolution of its cultural history. The artistic spiral featuring dichroic glass is held aloft by a steel element on one side that allude to cattails that typically grow on the edge of a lake.

We fabricated these Provocation Walls for Rocky Mountain Public Media to welcome visitors to the region’s public television and jazz radio station’s new home. Designed by The Exhibits Team the wall features sweater-clad ottomans and large, tiger-striped walls sections which invoke PBS’s past and present heroes: Mr. Rogers and Daniel Tiger. Embedded in the wall’s wood stripes are several different provocations, asking the building’s guests to reflect and respond by writing on the translucent glass stripes. Over time, the wall will grow with the building- in both texture and meaning.

"Gordian Knot" was commissioned for the Center for Teaching and Learning Media at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. The Gordian Knot is a legend associated with Alexander the Great. In 333 BC, wintering his army at Gordian, in what is now central Turkey, Alexander attempted to untie the Gordian Knot. The legend claimed that whoever untangled the Gordian Knot would rule Asia. Finding no ends to the knot, or a way to unbind it, he sliced it in half with his sword. Alexander went on to conquer Asia, fulfilling the prophecy.

JunoWorks worked with the interior designers to develop and install their design for a blacken fireplace at the community center of this planned community in the Denver area.

CONNECTIONS by Robert Pietruszewski

This 32 foot wind-driven kinetic sculpture of titanium and stainless steel is situated at the southwest end of Skyline Park in downtown Denver, Colorado and stands as a respectful tribute to Rebecca, Macie and Garrison Bingham. The multiple rotating elements invoke the interconnectedness of the family, the individual activities of each member while orbiting the central core and extending into the community.

CONNECTIONS had a number of demanding fabrication challenges. The sculpture has six moving elements rotating on nine independent axis, to accomplish this interwoven action at this scale required extraordinary attention to detail. Massive bearing systems were employed to accommodate the complex motion and the construction of each element of the work required precision to ensure strength while maintaining seamless integration, smooth motion, balance and aesthetic.
